USC at the AESS in Sitges, Spain

On March 15 and 16, the 15th edition of the AESS,the Spanish self-storage conference scheduled. This year, the resort was Sitges, about 30 kilometers southwest of Barcelona, the show’s setting.

Awareness

Spain maintains its third position in Europe in terms of quantity of storage locations, but it remains interesting that awareness regarding self-storage still lags behind the Dutch market, for example. According to the Fedessa Survey 2022 45% of Hispanics are not familiar with the phenomenon of self-storage. In our country, this applies to only 12% of the population.

Back to last week. USC was well represented as a platinum sponsor. We had a nice location for our booth upon entering the hall. Our multi storey solution, which is currently at sister company
Salland Storage
being tested in Deventer, was once again met with great interest.

Day One

Day one began quietly, as the stock market would not open until noon. This allowed time to do some work, meet with fellow suppliers and enjoy the surroundings over a networking lunch in the beautiful port of Sitges. From 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. we could be found at our booth and in the evening there was a facility tour.

Facility tour

Colleague Danny went along to check out different storage locations in the Sitges area. These included a new location of Blue Storage, a long-standing site of Pogo and a fully automated facility of TotEnBox. After the facility tour, the day ended with a sumptuous networking dinner.

Day two

This day started early, as the fair opened with a communal breakfast at 8 a.m. After a central opening of the fair, several lectures followed on topics within the self-storage industry. In between, USC was on hand at the booth to answer questions and speak to visitors. Then, together with a large group of participants, we concluded the successful fair time. We did this with a final, joint meal in the harbor.

Local stock

As always, it was a pleasant reunion with the FEDESSA crew and fellow suppliers we meet all over Europe. During the various meetings, we were able to catch up well and, where possible, ties were reestablished.
In the coming years, we will be promoting our storage containers heavily in Spain. This certainly does not exclude the possibility that we will also stockpile storage containers on site.

Looking forward to seeing you next year.
