Delivery in York, England
Last month we had a delivery scheduled at
Inner Space Stations
. This is a company with multiple locations in and around historic York, England. The delivery of the containers had already been scheduled for February, but unfortunately due to the busy schedule of the shipping companies, this was delayed by several weeks.
For Graham and Nathan of Inner Space Stations, this meant rescheduling the arrangements with the parties who would be involved in unloading and building the containers on several occasions. In a time of scarcity in “human capital,” this was not always easy. Fortunately, everyone was able to attend on the final day of delivery.
Historic York
York is a city founded by the Romans just after the beginning of our era. Around 800, the city was conquered by the Vikings. The city wall is still fully intact and easily walkable. In any case, a walk through the center is recommended. The Minster of York is the second-largest cathedral in Europe. The medieval streets are great to walk through. The city is bustling thanks to the tens of thousands of students associated with the University of York. In short, a great place for a storage location.
Direct delivery from USA
The delivery to York was a direct delivery from the factory, not from the Netherlands. That always remains difficult for us to plan for. After all, with such a direct delivery, we cannot exert any influence on the shipping schedule. In practice, that means rescheduling each time. Until the truck with the 40-foot shipping container actually comes driving down the street.
Building Together
In such a delivery, we are present at the unloading of the shipping container and build one container together with the local crew. This time there was a hefty delay even on the scheduled day of delivery. Where the driver was supposed to arrive at 9:00 a.m., this ended up being 4:30 p.m. The scheduled driver was reportedly ill and the second driver had reached his maximum driving time.
Rapid Construction
Fortunately, all those involved were professional enough to still make a full commitment from 4:30 p.m. onward. Within an hour and a half, the shipping container was emptied and another hour and a half later, the first storage container was built. One could now proceed independently. That worked out well, because the next day I was expected to see Valenton, southeast of Paris. Here a new adventure awaited me….
